Fantastic day. Crossing into another country and experiencing once again the incredible feeling of warmth and friendliness which Scotland engenders is just wonderful, and discovering that the UK is to get the 2012 Olympics. I heard the latter news by text from home whilst sheltering from a downpour in Dumfries! The day had a global tinge for me when I encountered two Germans walking Hadrian's Wall. Other than that the only highlight was that I managed to pedal half a mile out of Carlisle without my flag which I'd left at last night's B & B so had to return for it. I've spent all day battling winds buffeting from all directions. but who cares - I'm in Scotland and I'm over half way to John O'Groats! Being somewhat ahead of schedule thinking of Ardrossan for tomorrow night and then on to Tarbet and up to Oban from there. Not sticking to a rigid timetable means I can take it as it comes and go as far or as short a distance as I like - unlike those pressurised individuals being corralled over at Gleneagles right now.
